Cinema of Denial — A Manifesto
Cinema is not here to explain. The moment a film explains itself, it collapses. It becomes readable, consumable, disposable.I reject that.I work with denial.Denial is not absence. It is control. What is withheld is not missing. It is placed under pressure.I do not remove truth.I deny access to it.Truth remains. It becomes unreachable. This denial operates through erosion. Not confusion. Not chaos.Gradual, irreversible loss. What is once perceived cannot be fully recovered again. If a film is built from pressure,it is not to be understood. It is to be endured. When an image settles, it is broken.Comfort is not allowed.Authority does not fail in truth. It constructs falsehood that is collectively accepted.Denial operates across all layers:the filmmaker, the system, and the social body.None are neutral.Information is withheld at the point of resolution. When interpretation stabilizes, it is broken.Sound does not resolve. It returns.Reaction is denied. It does not arrive when expected. What begins as error becomes condition. The film does not guide. It holds. The image fractures. The narrative shifts. The body disappears.Pressure remains. The viewer is not given meaning. They are denied stability. What is lost is not truth. It is the ability to trust perception.—This is the condition. It does not adjust.
You don’t watch the film.
You remain inside it until something in you no longer holds.
